Background Information
The existing Safety Guide (GS-G-4.1) was published in 2004
The current revision (DS449) was initiated to
- comply with the long term structure of safety standards approved in 2008
- ensure coherency and consistency with the other relevant IAEA Safety Standards (e.g. SF-1, GSRs, SSR-2/1 (Rev.1), SSR-2/2 (Rev.1), NSR-3 (Rev.1))
- incorporate further feedback: from the application of the existing Safety Guide; from operating experience reported to IAEA International Reporting System (WIRS); from Fukushima-Daiichi accident; from current practices in MSs building new NPPs
The new information in DS449 includes
- Distribution of the information in 21 chapters, more consistent with current practices in MSs
- Chapter on safety objectives and design rules of SSCs
- Unified description of the design of SSCs
