Background Information

The document (NS-G 1.9) was published in 2004, the scope of DS 481 remains essentially unchanged:

  • Reactor Coolant System
  • Core control reactivity (Operational and accident conditions)
  • RCS coolant inventory control (Operational and accident conditions)
  • Residual heat removal systems in shutdown modes (Operational and accident conditions)
  • Residual Heat Transfer (Operational and accident conditions)
  • Ultimate Heat Sink
     

The current revision (DS 481) was initiated to update recommendations and guidance taking into account the latest IAEA requirements as reflected in SSR-2/1, Rev.1:

  • Extension of the plant design envelope (inclusion of design extensions conditions wo significant fuel damage)
  • Prevention and minimization of radiological releases in accident conditions (radioactive release would not require off site protective actions)
